Do window shutters block out light?
Plantation shutters will allow light seep between louvres and also between the panel and the frame. However, this is often less light than other conventional window dressings and most clients will be pleasantly surprised at the increase in darkness which can be quite dramatic.
How do I choose the right louvre width for my shutters?
There are a variety of things to consider when deciding which size to go for, such as the height and style of your window, along with the levels of light and privacy that you want to achieve. We will talk you through the different options at your free home design visit and help you to the right decision.
The 2 ½” louvre is our smallest louvre and creates maximum privacy but does not allow as much light in as wider louvres. This makes it ideal for rooms in the house which require the most privacy such as small toilets, utility rooms and walk in wardrobes.
The 3 ½” is the most popular size that we supply. It allows a nice level of light into the room but still allows for a lot of privacy. 3 ½” louvres are a great choice that allow maximum flexibility, hence their popularity.
Is it child friendly?
Royal Shutters are perfect for children’s rooms and nurseries. Unlike blinds, there are no cords for a child to play with. Shutters also help to control the light, ensuring a good night’s sleep for all. We have identified a number of different solutions that can also help create better blackout.
Curtains are obviously a great option for a child’s bedroom or nursery too, to complement decor or continue a theme, but without a blackout blind, they don’t provide the full solution.
Is it easy to clean?
Of course when it comes to cleaning the easiest option would be no window dressing at all, but if you had to choose one, then we’d argue for shutters. In fact we have some tips for how to keep your shutters good as new.
Curtains are not easy to clean and they attract dust. Shutters are easier than blinds as the louvres are solid and less likely to move.
We recommend using the brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner every once in a while.
Are shutters energy efficient?
Interior plantation shutters are one of the most energy efficient window dressings that you can use. They will help reduce heat loss in the winter months and reduce heat gain in the summer. Shutters are excellent insulators and will trap the cold air between your shutter and the window.
How long does it take to get shutters?
